About the Festival:
Eid Al-Fitr is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, which is the Islamic holy month of fasting. The religious Eid (Muslim religious festival) is the first and only day in the month of Shawwal during which Muslims are not permitted to fast. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal. The date for the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on the observation of new moon by local religious authorities, so the exact day of celebration varies by locality.
Celebration of the Festival at UAE:
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe a strict fast and participate in pious activities such as charitable giving and peace-making. It is a time of intense spiritual renewal for those who observe it. At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous three-day celebration called Eid Al-Fitr. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.
Before the day of Eid, during the last few days of Ramadan, each Muslim family gives a determined amount as a donation to the poor. This donation is of actual food like rice, barley, dates, rice, and any other food item that can cure the hunger and serve the one who is in need and cannot afford to buy food for them. The donation is given to ensure that the needy can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration.
On the day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning in outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. After the Eid prayer, Muslims usually scatter to visit various family and friends, give gifts especially to children, and make phone calls to distant relatives to give well-wishes for the holiday. These activities traditionally continue for three days.
In most Muslim countries, the entire 3-day period is an official government or school holiday.
When does the day falls?
The day begins after the sighting of a new crescent moon, marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, during which devout Muslims abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex from dawn to dusk. Eid Al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month after Ramadan in the Islamic calendar.

Ramadan in the Middle East Region:
During the holy month of Ramadan, expected to start on May 27, most of the countries in the Middle East region will follow reduced working hours. Ramadan lasts 29 to 30 days, and will be followed by the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which is expected to last for four working days.
In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia specifically, major ports and airports will be affected due to the limited number of employees allocated by customs, carriers and port/airport authorities during Ramadan. The Eid al-Fitr break in the country will also be longer, with five consecutive working days off.
